IMMIGRATION

IMMIGRATION REFORM
There has been no attempt at long-term, bi-partisan immigration legislation
since the gang of eight introduced
the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013
to end our governments inconsistent, disingenuous and insincere enforcement
of our immigration laws — threatening deportation one minute,
offering free health care and education the next.

It is important to understand the history of immigration. We are a nation of immigrants. The skills brought to this country by immigrates continually renew our quest for prosperity. Throughout our history has been easy for settled immigrants to fear competition from newly migrating individuals. This affects people who may have overstayed their visas and have been hired by American business to meet the need for affordable labor. Prejudice has always accompanied this debate. There are now four times the number of illegal immigrant who were granted amnesty in the Regan era.

There has been no attempt at long-term, bi-partisan immigration legislation since the so-called gang of eight (Sen. Michael Bennet, D-CO, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL, Sen. Jeff Flake, R-AZ, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC, Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, Sen. Robert Menendez, D-NJ, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-FL, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY) introduced the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013. This bill included the following:

  • A path to citizenship for illegal aliens[8] already in the United States is contingent on certain border security and visa tracking improvements. The plan provides for permanent residence for illegal aliens only after legal aliens waiting for a current priority date receive their permanent residence status and a different citizenship path for agricultural workers through an agricultural worker program.
  • Business immigration system reforms, focusing on reducing current visa backlogs and fast tracking permanent residence for U.S. university student visa immigrant graduates with advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering or math also known as the STEM fields.
  • An expanded and improved employment verification system for all employers to confirm employee work authorization.
  • Improved work visa options for low-skilled workers including an agricultural worker program.
From the last term of Obama until now the republicans have shifted the immigration narrative to the wall on our southern border even though illegal entry there it at is lowest level in 50 years. Our legislators know how to solve this, they need to be fired if they do not get it done.
